Trimmer & Clipper Brands

Wahl, Andis, and Oster are the most recognized names that have dominated the market for decades. After that, you will see the newer, and even better leaders in the industry today.

The three most widely known and classic names in the industry

1) Oster Professional | 9.5/10

  • From the Octane Cordless, to the Turbo 111 — And from the Titan to the Classic 76’s — Oster makes the nicest professional detachable hair clippers in the world. Period.

  • Regarding their trimmers, they simply can’t compete with the best from BaByliss, JRL, TPOB, and Gamma.

  • Regardless, if you’re in the market to buy something from the “Big Three,” Oster is the leader and has been for decades.

2) Wahl Professional | 8.5/10

  • Wahl is the definition of “Mediocre,” and nothing they make is better than “Middle of the line.”

  • They consistently charge outrageous prices for average machines, and people pay because they don’t know better.

  • 100% of their products lay somewhere in the very middle of the pack.

  • I wouldn’t purchase anything from Wahl unless the product in mind was 50% off during a Black Friday sale.

  • Their top two Clippers are the Senior ($189), and the Magic Clip ($139).

  • Their top two Trimmers are the Hi-Viz ($199), and the original silver Detailer Li ($159)

  • Not one of these products should cost more than $120, aside from the Senior ($189) which should be no more than $139.

3) Andis | 7.5/10

  • The Andis GTX-EXO ($165) is the best all-around product produced by Andis, and it’s loved by many of the best barbers in the world. However, I don’t really like it and don’t think it’s worthy of a top 15 mention.

  • The Slimline Pro Li ($72) is very well regarded by most, but it’s very lackluster and cheap in my experience. They have have a newer, upgraded version, called the Slimline Pro GTX ($83) which is even worse. The issue with the GTX is the weak motor found on both models. Stick with the Slimline Pro Li if you decide to buy this trimmer for whatever reason.

  • Their products are not really worth your time in comparison to all the other options on the market today.

  • Andis makes products that are superior to Cocco Pro, Caliber Pro, and 4MAS — but they’re towards the absolute bottom.

The Newer contenders

Over the past few years, the three brands above have remained stagnant while the newcomers below have entered to win.

1) BaBylissPRO | 10/10

  • BaBylissPRO is the time tested, gold standard for trimmers and clippers.

  • Just like Gamma+/Stylecraft is the Nissan GTR and Toyota Supra of trimmers and clippers — think of BaByliss as Rolls Royce and Bentley. They’re more like a luxury car instead of a supercar.

  • They invented the BaBylissPRO GoldFX ($184) back in 2018, which took the world by storm. They’re still some of the most respected trimmers in the world today.

  • The SNAPFX ($199) is the best all-around hair trimmer I’ve ever purchased (I have gone through 23 trimmers so far). It’s so far above and beyond just about anything else out there.

  • The GoldFX Boost+ ($189) is one of the most overrated trimmers on the planet. I don’t even know why this thing exists, and compared to the JRL 2020T ($110), the Boost+ feels like it should cost $90-95. Do not buy the GoldFX Boost+! For $10 more, you can get the SNAPFX ($199), which is superior in every imaginable metric.

  • Another standout is the LoPROFX ($169) which are the exact same things as the GoldFX’s, with a newer and sleeker body.

  • The LithiumFX ($139) is a very nice machine that gives a lot of high end products a run for their money. It’s far superior to their FX3 ($174), which is so bad at being a trimmer, it should cost no more than $70. I hate the FX3 with a passion.

  • If you want the best trimmers and clippers in the world, BaBylissPRO is one of the top brands available. They make the best trimmer I’ve ever used, and one of the worst trimmers on the planet, at the exact same time.

2) JRL | 10/10

  • Smaller brand presence than many of the others, but very premium across the board.

  • They make the most “jewelry like” products out of any company.

  • Their products are gorgeous and are rarely knocked off.

  • Their standout products are the 2020T Trimmer ($110), the 2020C Clipper ($165), and the newer ONYX Clipper ($195).

  • I have the 2020T and it’s easily one of the best all around trimmers on the planet! I love it.

  • If you want the best trimmers and clippers in the world, JRL is one of the top brands available.

3) TPOB | 9/10

  • TPOB (The Pissed Off Barber) is a company that rebrands and sells popular products from BaByliss, Cocco Pro, and Gamma+/Stylecraft at a discounted rate.

  • They simply take the Chinese manufacturing and rebeand them, so you can get $150-200 products for only $80-120.

  • For the price (We’re talking roughly 50% less for the exact same items), nothing tops TPOB.

  • Very cool marketing, packaging, and branding — but their website needs a lot of help.

  • The biggest issue I have found with TPOB is their website is full of grammatical and technical mistakes. They never update this information, which leaves us in a weird place not knowing what we can and can’t believe.

  • Their standout products are the TPOB X ($104) which is an exact knockoff of the Cocco Pro BLDC ($160), and the Troll ($89) which is an exact knockoff of the BaByliss LoPROFX ($169),

  • I have the X, and they’re one of the nicest trimmers I’ve ever used.

  • I also have the Troll, and I really like it — but the X is the superior machine.

4) Cocco Hair Pro | 7.5/10

  • Smaller brand presence than many of the others, and for good reason.

  • The problem with Cocco Hair Pro is they’re not really trying in comparison to companies like Supreme Trimmer and TPOB. I don’t care what anyone has to say about this, I know what it looks like when a company is really trying (Think Genesis). Cocco just isn’t that company.

  • Their price point is a lot higher than most of the others for whatever reason (Think Louis Vuitton vs. Coach, or Ferrari vs. Porsche). I don’t think their products warrant the prices they’re asking. They need to take their $150+ price points, and lower them to $100+ to withstand the competition onslaught the others are bringing to the table.

  • They talk a lot about their “Digital Gap Ambassador DLC blade,” saying: “It was designed with new state-of-the-art core technology to achieve maximum comfort, sharpness, and intense precision.” This is nothing more than marketing 101 at it’s finest…

  • These premium blades from any of the top brands are 90-99% the exact same thing — coming off the exact same assembly line in China.

  • The trimmer that get’s the most love in the YouTube world was the Cocco Pro BLDC ($160), which has been removed from their website. It’s the exact same product as the TPOB X ($104), but the TOPB X comes with the “PSYCHO Graphite Blade with KRUNCH cutter” ($35 on Amazon), which is one of the best blade combos in the world.

  • The Veloce ($160) and Hyper Veloce ($195) are their top trimmers. I like them, but I don’t love them. I think the older BLDC is superior, and the TPOB X is far superior to all three for nearly half the price.

  • Supreme Trimmer makes a plastic version of the BLDC called the Vader ($80). I like the Vader a lot more than the BLDC, TPOB X, and the Veloce. The Veloce is made of metal and looks really nice in pictures, but when you hold it in your hand, it’s not what you think it is.

  • The Vader cuts 98% as well as the others, but it comes with a charging stand, trimmer guards, and the charging port is USB-C (Which is very rare and should be standard on all trimmers and clippers). It costs a lot less, it’s the exact same shape, and I think it’s what everyone should buy if you’re looking for something similar in size and shape to the BLDC or Veloce.

5) Gamma+/Stylecraft | 7/10

  • Gamma+ and Stylecraft (Different designs, different website, same mediocre quality products) fall under the same parent company.

  • HERE’S WHAT I’VE LEARNED, AND THIS IS THE TRUTH: Stylecraft pays the biggest names on YouTube to say their products are the best, but those reviewers are lying to us! It took me spending roughly $800 to see through the BS. Stay away from Stylecraft if you want a quality machine.

  • The quality of their products is extremely low. That's why they give you a ton of bells and whistles in the box (To make you think you got a good deal).

  • Stylecraft branded products are absolute GARBAGE in my opinion. They're not on par with TPOB quality, and TPOB products are nearly half the price.

  • PRO TIP: Gamma gets all the premium products, while Stylecraft gets the trash (ex. The Gamma Cyborg Trimmer ($199) trimmer is far superior to the Stylecraft Saber Trimmer ($199), and the Gamma Boosted Clipper ($199) is slightly better than the Stylecraft Rebel Clipper ($189).

  • The Gamma branded products are fine (They're upper-middle of the line). However, JRL and BaByliss products are on another level.

  • I put Stylecraft way down at the bottom with Andis, Caliber, and 4MAS. Knowing what I know now... I will never purchase another product from any of them again. Nothing they make is worth your money — and stop listening to the YouTube reviewers who are only trying to make a buck by producing advertisements for their sponsors.

  • They release most of the same products in different colors, but each brand has certain products that only they sell.

  • The Saber is the most overrated trimmer in the industry — Period. It should cost no more than $110 and it’s not even in my top 8 out of everything I’ve purchased and tested.

6) Supreme Trimmer | 6.5/10

  • Supreme Trimmer is a replica company that primarily knocks off Cocco products and surprisingly makes them better.

  • They simply take the Chinese manufacturing and rebrand them, so you can get $150-200 products for roughly $40-110.

  • Their standout products are the Vader lineup. Regardless of the price, they’re outstanding!

  • The Vader Trimmers ($79) are a plastic knockoff of the Cocco Pro BLDC Trimmer ($160), which is the same thing as the TPOB X ($104). They come with a charging stand, a USB-C charging port, trimmer guards, and for half the price of the Cocco’s — I highly recommend them.

  • The Vader Clippers ($119) are a plastic knockoff of the Cocco Pro BLDC Clipper ($160). I have a pair, and I’m not very impressed. This “Cocco shaped” clipper style isn’t something I’m a fan of, but you might enjoy it I personally like the traditional shape of a Wahl Senior and BaByliss LoPROFX more.

  • Their Pro Clipper ($85) is a similar design to the BaBylissPRO LoPROFX ($200) and the TPOB TROLL ($110).

  • I absolutely love what Supreme Trimmer is doing with their higher end products. For the price, nothing else can compete with the value you receive, aside from TPOB.

7) Caliber Pro | 6/10

  • Some of the top reviewers on YouTube swear by Caliber Pro.

  • Their standout products are the .50 Cal BMG Clipper ($195), and the .22 Stinger Trimmer ($139).

  • I have the .22 Stinger and it’s an absolute piece of trash. It does come with tons of goodies (A charging stand, trimmer guards, interchangeable housings, and Micro-USB charging) just like Gamma+ and Stylecraft, but it’s a terrible trimmer in my opinion.

  • I do not trust this brand and would not recommend purchasing anything from them.

8) 4MAS | 5/10

  • Easily the worst products and customer service out of any trimmer and clipper manufacturer in the world.

  • The Kion 2.0 is their best product, and they’re charging $149 for a trimmer that should cost no more than $60. It’s a piece of junk.

  • The Supreme Trimmer Vader smokes the Kion 2.0, and it’s half the price!

  • I spent my hard earned money on a Black on Red Kion 2.0, hoping that I was going to receive a great product. What they sent me was scratched up, it had a white brick that didn’t match the product, and they even shipped me a cheap blue power cord that you can find on Amazon for $2?! 🤷‍♂️

  • They only offer a store credit and will NOT issue you a refund for any reason. They literally sent me a used, banged up and scratched up trimmer that cost me over $100 and they refuse to let me send it back and refund my money! That’s the sign of a terrible company that doesn’t stand behind their products!

  • I obviously don’t want anything else from them — I already purchased the best trimmer they sell, and it’s a piece of trash. Literally one of the worst trimmers on the market.

  • When I contacted them, they had the nerve to “Pee-wee Herman” me, with the whole “I know you are but what am I” childish nonsense…

  • They began arguing with me over text, saying:

  • “Yeah right, the Kion is the best. It runs at 7,600 RPM and that it’s 360 degree skeletoned.”

  • You’re joking me right?!?! 🙇‍♂️🤦‍♂️

  • I tested the crappy thing, and it actually runs at 5,894 RPM! It’s not 360 degree skeletoned, it’s 180 degree!

  • These idiots treat their customers like crap, and as we all know… What goes around, comes around.

  • This company is a joke. Stay away from 4MAS.

  • Their products are just as bad as the customer service that represents them.
